Studio Buildout

I was brought on my current role to build a production studio from scratch. The space given was limited, but with a little creativity, it exceeded expectations and the scope of its original intentions. Following the success of utilizing the limited space, it was decided that we would expand to a larger studio, which I helped with the buildout and design. From electrical to cyc design, to acoustic dampening, I was involved in every step. This buildout led us to produce videos well beyond the scope of traditional corporate expectations, even leading us to produce several national televised commercials. Beyond that, our studio gained some notoriety, leading to outside brands using it for their own branded material and advertisements. Beginning with the pandemic, I began integrating live production capabilities into the studio. The success that came with this new ability led the company to invest in a third studio, focused solely on live production needs. I am in the process of designing, implementing, and building out this third studio currently.

PRE-PRODUCTION

Building and operating production studios comes with the need for buying gear and staffing operations positions. My expertise in this area is uniquely qualified to determine precise gear purchasing based on any budget. The goal is to make sure there is no waste and that all equipment will stand the test of time through future growth and budget expansion. My meticulous effort -- and success -- in that area has assured the company that my judgement and expertise can be trusted to benefit the company for all future needs.

Budget Management

Team Management

Operating and maintaining multiple studios within a corporate environment requires managing a team of well-rounded and highly experienced professional video producers. Developing and managing a world-class team is necessary to the success of any in-house production studio, as everyone involved needs to wear many hats and be able to shift focus quickly and efficiently. Alongside managing a team of producers, camera operators, audio engineers, editors, animators, and everything in between, I also participate in the company-wide internship program where I’m constantly on the lookout for emerging talent that will be an excellent fit for my team.

Being a video production director in a corporate setting means I collaborate with all aspects of the business to make the perfect product. Whether it’s live production, animation, or narrative, I am part of the planning from the very beginning. Knowing where certain aspects of video production are most effective is a priceless utility in the conceptualization and developing process.

Conceptualization

Script Supervision

After a script is written, one of the main duties of the video production director is to be able to take it and apply the desired vision through the application of the production itself. I help bring the video to life in an effective way on every project by determining the shot list and order, timing, style, design, and execution, while collaborating with the creative director and lead copywriter.
